THANK YOU FARMER Sun Project Light Sun Essence review

Thursday 4 April 2019

I’m back again with another collaboration & this time it’s with Thank You Farmer Malaysia! I’m feeling pretty blessed to have this opportunity because I’ve only been a Korean beauty convert for around the same time as I started blogging again which has been about 7-8 months now. Just wanted to share this as it really feels good when all my time & effort to shoot, edit & write is being noticed. (Crying inside with tears of joy RN 😭) Thank you again, Thank You Farmer Malaysia team! 💕

Anyway, back to the review! Thank You Farmer is a brand that believes in helping the skin restore its natural strength while slowing down the aging of cells through using good products regularly & consistently. To be healthy & beautiful naturally & gradually without burdening the skin is Thank you Farmer’s honest promise.

I’ve previously heard about Thank You Farmer through one of @aliciatal’s Instagram posts or Youtube videos sometime awhile back but back then I didn’t have much interest in skincare as I do now. So, I was quite ecstatic to be able to try one of Thank You Farmer’s series: Sun Project. Just the perfect time to review a sun screen because it’s been extremely hot these days & I literally melt the moment I step out of my home!

Thank You Farmer has several series – True Water, Miracle Age, Be Beautiful, Back to, Sun Project & Country Man each targeting different skin concerns for all genders! You’ll probably be able to find a basic skincare line that suits your skincare needs easily on their site! If the name doesn’t give it away already, the Sun Project series focuses on sun protection, consisting of:

Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++ 50ml
* thicker consistency like a cream focusing on moisture, suitable for normal or dry skin

Thank You Farmer Sun Project Light Sun Essence SPF50+ PA+++ 40ml
* lighter, essential type lotion focusing on non stickiness, suitable for oily or combination skin

Thank You Farmer Sun Project Shimmer Sun Essence SPF30+ PA+++ 40ml
* essential type lotion for all skin types that need a glow booster

I would have chosen the same sun screen that was sent to me because I really love a light sun screen!

*Disclaimer: While this product was sent to me, all my reviews will always be 100% honest as I would only share products that I would genuinely use for my readers.

According to their website, Thank You Farmer’s Sun Project Light Sun Essence SPF50+PA+++ 40ml is a real moisturizing sun essence with an air-like touch, resembling the coolness of a spring shower & the freshness of a breeze.

Some of its claims includes:
* A refreshing touch without stickiness
High sunscreen capacity without excess whitening
Contains natural extracts such as phyto-oligo, inca omega oil & bamboo extracts
Suitable for all skin types, especially combination or oily skin

When to use it:
During the day time at the end of your skincare routine. Reapply throughout the day if needed.
(Not sure when to reapply? Read on to find out!)

The ingredients include:
Water, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butylene Glycol, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Cyclopentasiloxane, C20-22 Alkyl Phosphate, C20-22 Alcohols, Silica, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Water, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Lipids, Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Cardiospermum Halicacabum Flower/Leaf/Vine Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Tromethamine, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Octyldodecanol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Caprylyl Glycol, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Polyisobutene, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, Cellulose Gum, Sorbitan Oleate, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Fragrance, Rose

To be honest, I did not have much expectations upon trying this sun essence because while I do use sun screens, it has never really been the top skincare products that I pay attention to (although I should). I used to think that as long as I don’t get more hyper pigments or make me darker then it’s good. But I am very picky when it comes to sun screen because I want something that is light, non-sticky or oily or too matte but also at least SPF50+ as I’m too lazy to reapply throughout the day. I sound like such a picky person right, or maybe it’s not just me? Haha! 😂 Okay la, I’ve never found a sun screen that I really super liked that fit all the criteria I mentioned while being wallet friendly for me. But that was until now & I'm not kidding!

Thank You Farmer's Sun Project Light Sun Essence comes in a sleek tube that can be easily held onto & placed into your daily makeup pouch. With a light squeeze, out comes the sun essence! ☀️ It has a very light scent, I can't really explain what it smells like but it doesn't bother me when I've applied it onto my skin because it's simply light & easy on the nose.

The sun essence is really smooth & easy to apply, after applying it on my hand to test, there's no white cast / white caking whatsoever! It wasn't sticky at all & stayed nicely on my skin with a mild matte effect which was perfect for me. As mentioned on their website, it does give me a texture light as air 😍

After applying, my face doesn't appear oily at all & I love that it's not extremely matte to a point that my face looks powdery! 😍 Had to capture this another day because the camera didn't show the pretty matte effect. Apparently the natural essence in this sun essence creates this glass bead like transparent skin effect.🌟 When I saw how naturally effortless it made my skin look, I just fell in love at first use! 💕 Seriously I ain't joking, & this is me after my usual skincare routine, without any makeup except my brows.

I went on to apply makeup over this sun essence & my makeup sat really well with it while making my skin look uber smooth. Even after a long day out going through sun, rain & haze, my skin didn't really oil up much & my skin still had a light matte feel to it even after 6 hours out.

Just a little shout out, I also love how insightful & detailed Thank You Farmer Malaysia's product description page is! 😍 They even explain to you what SPF & PA is which I didn't know until I came across it on their website! A common misconception about SPF is people (me included) think that the higher the SPF the stronger the sun protection. Funny story, I was so afraid of getting tanned in the past that I'd pile on sun screen just because kiasu & I thought that thicker means stronger sun protection, which my skin ended up getting clogged & oily AF. 😂 In case you're not sure when you are supposed to reapply sun screen, 1 SPF = 15 minutes of UV protection so for this SPF50+ Sun Project Light Sun Essence, you'll be getting a generous 12.5 hours of UV protection! ☀️ For a lazy person like me, I won't need to reapply if I'm out for the whole day.

As mentioned in the beginning, I didn't have much expectations but I really did not expect to truly adore this sun essence like I do. Thank You Farmer's Sun Project Light Sun Essence has definitely become one of my top favourite skincare products & is one of the best sun screens I've used thus far. Whenever I alternate between different sun screens, I miss this one a lot, to a point I feel that I might be addicted hahah! 😂 Sometimes some brands over exaggerate on how great their product is but it doesn't meet what they promise, but this product sure met all the points promised & I'm so glad it did. It's a strong yes about repurchasing this product & Thank You Farmer has jumped its way up to one of the top brands I'd definitely want to try more of their other products!

You can get Thank You Farmer's products at selected AEON & Sasa outlets near you (find out more here) or simply purchase Thank You Farmer's Sun Project Light Sun Essence online here.

Did I mention that you'll get 1 free Delux at your checkout online which you get to choose yourself? 😍 To me, a brand that is generous with their freebies is always a plus! They gave me a good variety of free samples which I’ve tried them all. Here’s a quick bonus review on them to help you decide which to get when you shop on Thankyoufarmer.my!

* Gooey consistency but feels light & hydrating on the skin. I would love to try this more!

* Rich foam that cleanses my skin very gently but cleanly. I would try this again!

* Thick, creamy, not a lot is needed to cover the whole skin & my skin feels very moist afterwards. I would love to try this again as well!

* Thick cream but it becomes like a rubber dust texture before I've even applied it throughout my face. It did make my skin softer but to buy full size, maybe not for me.

Thank you for reading till the end & hope you enjoyed my beauty review! 💕

The Barn Wine Bar @ Citta Mall food review

Wednesday 27 February 2019

It has been awhile since I’ve had some good Western food which I figured, why not try The Barn? I have been craving for something rewarding (a.k.a. a sinful cheat meal) for some time now ever since I began my diet plan which my wish was coincidentally granted by a marketing representative from The Barn who contacted me earlier in the week. While this was an invite to try out some of The Barn’s menu, my reviews will be genuine & honest. Just wanted to mention this as I’ve always been & always will be true with my content & to my readers. 😊

While one of the reason for me wanting to try The Barn was to satisfy my cravings, I saw that they had a 4.8 star rating out of 5 stars (from 268 reviews) on Google which I got me pretty curious on how good the food could be.

The interior of The Barn I would say is a fusion of funk as seen on the walls, and luxe with their cozy sofas & elegant bar stools.

While this was a restaurant bar, I felt very comfortable & at home (no my home aint decorated like this) because of the warm service from the staff & comfortable seats. I don’t know if anyone can relate to me but often places with pretty interiors have uncomfortable chairs! 😂 Anyway, The Barn also has a live band at night which I feel would be a great place to chill too!

The menu was simple with just 1 spread of 4 pages to view. I actually prefer menus like this as I get pretty overwhelmed by a giant menu with items that were only slightly different which I would begin having trouble deciding what to eat. 😂 While the menu is relatively small, every selection was unique on its own & you wouldn't have to worry about not being able to find something you like.

Smoked Karubi Cubes - RM23 (NEW)

Our order arrived very quickly which had me surprised by the efficiency! Often you’d be expected to sit for at least 20 mins when having Western food but this isn’t the case for The Barn & I’m not complaining! 😍

We were first served with Smoked Karubi Cubes & assorted veges of onions, cucumbers & cherry tomatoes. The smoked beef cubes were rubbed in a light herb seasoning, allowing the natural flavours of the meat to shine through. I’m not a huge fan of heavily seasoned foods, especially herbs so I really enjoyed the Smoked Karubi Cubes. It was so hard to pick up the cubes with the given sticks as the meat was so tender & soft like butter, it would just fall straight off. 😍

It comes with an interesting flavoured sauce, I’m not sure what sauce it is, but it compliments well with the beef without overpowering it. Adding on some alcohol at the side would make this the best snack food for your fancy yumcha night. ✨

Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐️
This dish was super my type & loved how the flavours blended well together.

Seafood Spaghettini Sarawak Laksa - RM33 (NEW)

This Seafood Spaghettini came with prawns, mussels, clams, squids & fish slices cooked in a Sarawak Laksa paste sauce. I’m all for fusion pastas because I’m just a typical Asian who loves her spicy food. Initially I thought the pasta would be the creamy sauce kind as curries are often recreated as a creamy sauce, but this dish came as an aglio olio style which I liked as well.

The seasoning was just the right amount, not too overwhelming while still allowing the seafood to shine as well. I really liked this aspect of the cooking if not it would be a waste of such good seafood.

The dish came with some chili & lime at the side just like how a typical Sarawak laksa would be. I recommend to try the pasta as it is first, & see if you’d like to add on the chili or lime. I had mine with just added lime as I love a little tangy-ness to my noodles.

The only downside of this dish that the prawns were not fresh. Prawns are like my favourite seafood so I was quite disappointed by that. Coincidentally the chef actually came to ask me about the food & I just nicely remarked that the prawns were not fresh.

About 10 minutes later, he served us with a fresh batch of prawns. That was just so nice & professional of him. I really appreciate redemption & the fact that the chef still made a fresh batch despite me mentioning “that’s okay” was just 5 star service right there. 💖

Look at this fresh juicy prawn 🦐

Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐️
I love a good fusion pasta & this is a unique one. 😍 The portion was generous too!

Iberico Ribs - RM68

The ribs were slow cooked & served with mashed potatoes & seasonal vegetables. I have never been much of a pork rib fan as I never enjoyed the strong porky smell. However, these ribs had a light but flavourful porky taste (maybe because its imported from Spain / Portugal & not a local piggy). I loved how the chef seasoned the food once again because it wasn’t overwhelming but just enough to be flavourful. The ribs were not extremely soft that it would fall off the bone, but you could get the meat off without any harsh slicing.

The baked potatoes, onions & cherry tomatoes  were drizzled with a reduced vinaigrette sauce which paired very well together! I always avoid vinaigrette sauce but I truly enjoyed this one as it was slightly sweeter. The baked brocolli & cauliflower had a mild cheese after taste which mixed well with the ribs & mashed potatoes. I was not a huge fan of the sauce given as it tasted kind of sweet & didn’t match the ribs. My bf enjoyed it though so this was just a personal preference.

The portion was so generous that we were so stuffed before we could finish the dish.

Rating: 4/5 ⭐️
The ribs weren’t as soft as I’d like & it didn’t shine as much as the side dishes. (or maybe its just my personal preference as I love vegetables more than meat 😂)

Chocolate Lava - RM25

Lastly, we have our dessert of a mini Chocolate Lava cake. To me, the portion size was just right as we were really stuffed after having the ribs. The chocolate lava cake took 11 minutes to prepare & was served freshly baked with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream & cute berries on the side.

Look at that ooze!! I’m already drooling from seeing this again. 🤤  Fun fact, I’m not a dessert person at all & you can probably count with your two hands on the number of times I’ve had desserts in a year. But this mouthwatering ooze from the chocolate lava really tempted me to try it & I had second, third bites after! I was expecting a super sweet chocolate cake like what cheap cakes would taste, but this was far from that. The choclate was rich but not sweet, even from a non sweet tooth person’s standpoint. The outer was slightly crisp while the inner was perfectly moist & fluffy. Pairing it with the vanilla ice cream, it was a satisfying ending to my meal at The Barn.

Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐️
I love me a non sweet dessert & this matched my taste buds perfectly. I’d have this again & I don’t even eat desserts.

Overall, I really enjoyed my meal at The Barn. The service was 5 stars & everyone was so polite & nice. Food was good, the kind of seasoning I like & the ambience was comfortable & chill. Definitely a place I'd head back again & recommend to others!

COSRX One Step Green Hero Calming Pad review with Wynora

Sunday 3 February 2019

I’ve been really into the Korean fashion scene for quite some time now & beginning from mid of last year, I’ve started trying Korean skincare & I’ve never looked back! While it hasn’t been long, I truly feel that Korean skincare is revolutionary (in my opinion 😂) & that effective skincare can be affordable as well. Which leads to this review. I feel extremely blessed to be one of the first in Malaysia to review this newly released COSRX Green Hero Calming Pad in collaboration with Wynora! (One of the first because this product is currently ONLY SOLD by Wynora in Malaysia) COSRX is one of the brands I first discovered when starting my Korean skincare journey simply for its affordable prices & attractive products! COSRX is a no-nonsense brand that only uses ingredients that work into their formula which explains why alot of their products do not carry much fragrance (fragrance isn’t good for the skin in the long run).

As for this new COSRX Green Hero Calming Pad, it’s basically toner soaked cotton pads that soothe & calm sensitive skin = me. To be honest, my first reaction when I got the offer to try this product, I was pretty sceptical at first because I’ve never used toners soaked cotton pads before. Before this, I felt like why would you even need to waste so much toner when you’re skin is probably already clean after a cleanser right? I was so wrong!! This is coming from me who does a thorough cleanse of:
milk double cleanse > oil based remover (if any makeup) > facial foam cleanser > gel scrub (sometimes) > toner

Before we proceed with the review, I’d like to disclaim that while this was a sponsored product, I’ve always been true to my content as I would only accept sponsorships from products that I feel would work for me & my readers.

Now on to the review!

Every Wynora purchase comes with a eco-friendly, recyclable brown box & their cute seasonal sticker on it. Simple yet functional.

My PR kit came with fun green & white streamers to match the colours of COSRX’s Green Hero Calming Pad. I even got a cute tester pack which you can get only when you purchase with Wynora! Continue reading for a promo code at the end 🤗

COSRX’s iconic mascot - Mr RX is adorably found on the lid.

The COSRX Green Hero Calming Pad comes in a sturdy plastic opaque tub with 70 moistly soaked pads! While there was a slight green tint on the pads & some scent, the colour didn’t super artificial & the scent was very, very mild, maybe coming from the extracts found in the formula.

This COSRX Green Hero Calming Pad comprises of 75% green tea water, 10% Green-RX complex & 0.25% PHA. AHA is one of the most raved ingredients of korean skincare simply for its healing & exfoliating properties & PHA is a new technology of AHA but is less irritant, as effective & can be used daily compared to AHA which you should only use every once in 2-3 days. COSRX’s Green-RX complex contains 5 plant extracts including:

The full ingredients list:
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water, Butylene Glycol, Taraxacum Officinale (Dandelion) Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract, Artemisia Princeps Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Extract, Lactobionic Acid, Maltodextrin, Panthenol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Glycerine, Arginine, Allantoin, Asiaticoside, Asiatic acid, Madecassic acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Menthyl Lactate, Mentha Haplocalix Extract. (COSDNA)

The pads have small embossed bumps on 1 side, leaving the other side smooth. I guess its for personal preference as some people may prefer to use different textures. As there weren’t any instructions on the box as to which side to use first, I went with what I felt was right by using:
1. textured side - thoroughly deep scrub away any remaining dirt & residue
2. smooth side - final wipe off

The pads were mildly cooling eventhough I didn’t place them in the refrigerator upon using. To my surprise, they were soaked so well that the pads were still super moist after cleansing my face with it, TWICE! According to COSRX’s official site, these pads have healing properties for dry skin so I decided to it on the dry patch on my arm & elbows so it wouldn’t be a waste of the toner. I’ve had a round dry patch on my arm since forever now & even after applying rich lotion, it still remains dry.

Before & after of using only the COSRX Green Hero Calming Pads for a week. While there’s still abit of dryness visible, it isn’t as bad as before & I can flaunt my arms freely now!

As for my skin before using the COSRX Green Hero, it’s not really noticeable from the photo but it hasn’t been the super baby soft smoothness I’ve always wanted. While I’ve never had serious issues with it such as acne, my skin has always been prone to whiteheads, blackheads & hyperpigmentation. Even on good days where my skin seemed clear from pimple scars, there would still be mild bumps on my T-zone area.

After using these COSRX Green Hero Calming Pads for about a week now, my skin does feel smoother & softer from all that cleaning & wiping. Throughout the day, my skin feels more moisturised & eventhough it does get oily after a long day at work, the oil distribution is pretty controlled & evenly spread out around my face. Now I’m even a little obsessed with it & I can’t leave it out from my skincare routine. I guess I’m officially a toner cotton pad convert! 😂

If you think that spray toners & cotton pad toners are the same, see the picture below that influenced me to convert to cotton pads haha!

Can you imagine that this is my skin even after my double cleanse & washing with a cleanser?? I couldnt believe my eyes after seeing it up close with a magnifying glass. The pads actually turned grey!! Ew! I’ve always been pretty stingy with my toners because I assumed that my face would be clean after all that cleansing but it still wasn’t! I will never be stingy with my toners again.

Overall, I felt like the COSRX Green Hero Calming Pad is a great product that I’d repurchase! It did what it was formulated for, which was to “Soothe, calm & clean sensitive skin”. My skin definitely feels cleaner & it felt softer too!

Dear J flower unveiled

Sunday 13 January 2019

Dear J flower has been gaining attention these few years in KL’s florist scene for their beautiful & elegant AF flower arrangements. Yesterday, my friend & the founder of Dear J flower, Jane achieved an amazing milestone for her company & herself as they’ve moved into their own studio.

The space was filled with Jane’s signature flower arrangements, making it such an Instagrammable space!

Every corner is just aesthetic goals!! Now I want to paint my room white hahah

With indoor trees & high ceilings, attending flower classes here would be so nice. Stay tuned, I’ll attend one soon!! 😂

Such an Instagrammable space, of course must #ootd 一下 lor. The dress code was white & this is my best attempt at being super elegant hahahah

There was free card making & wax sachet session & I got to make one too! I was super excited for it because I’ve always wanted to make one. Sorry no pictures of the process because it all happened way too quickly for me to document it! I was so surprised by how quickly the wax dried up. Didn’t get much time to think about how I should arrange my flowers & just went by feeling 😂

The calligraphy were done by the very pretty & talented @roxycalligraphy. I chose “Chase your dream” because I was inspired by Jane’s speech earlier where she decided to chase her dreams in doing flower arrangements instead of what she initially majored in which was fashion marketing. I’ve always found her so inspiring because she’s a girl boss that hustles to get what shes wants. At her age, its pretty amazing what she’s accomplished. In her speech, she mentioned to just go for it, whatever that dream is. Her guts, dreaming big & hard work made her what she is today, for that, I really look up to her.

Ok back to making elegant stuff! I actually love making crafts like these & never really had the time ever since I started working. But for that hour or so yesterday, I was in that element where I haven’t been in a long time, ever since I stopped going for art classes 5 years ago.

How did I do? The glue was spilling all over & I tried hard to cover it up. Not obvious right?

I’ve always wanted to make one of these!! I even bought the materials but just haven’t got off my butt to doing so.

Keeping this post sweet & short, congrats lady boss Jane on this remarkable milestone in 2019! To even more success ahead in your endeavours ♥️♥️♥️

Note to self, dare to chase your dreams.
