Day in the Desert with D.A.R.K.

Saturday 22 August 2015

Yes you heard me right! Our gang D.A.R.K. (Darlene, Amanda, Rynn & me, Kimmie) went to a desert for a day! OK la not really hahaha! It's Malacca's sand dunes! I didn't know there were such thing & it was just so cool! Totally awesome for photoshooting!! Anyway, this is actually how it went la, it was a college day trip for our Malaysian studies subject. So here goes!

ASSEMBLY OF THE STUDENTS:
It was the day of the trip and I was quite excited as it has been awhile since I’ve been on a road trip. I arrived at around 7:50am and we were supposed to leave college at 8. When I arrived at college, I saw the bus parked outside but not many students arrived yet. It was just as I expected because this is the Malaysian habit of not being punctual. This habit of being late just bugs me a lot because there are others waiting in the bus, so no one should be so selfish to drag others down by wasting their time. Unfortunately, some people just don’t learn or even have the sense of awareness about it.. -.-ll Anyway, after waiting for an hour for every single one to arrive, we finally left college at around 9am to Malacca.

ON THE WAY TO MALACCA:
We were passed a bag of a selection of bread to choose from as our breakfast which was included in the RM50 we paid for this trip. The bread wasn’t enough for me but thankfully I packed along my own breakfast as I knew I would need a lot of energy for this day. Also because a small piece of bread is really not enough for me. hahahah! But I shared my fried rice with Rynn so I didn't really eat a lot mahhh. *self comfort lol* I napped, joked around with friends, snapped some photos and had some rest stops, and after two hours, we finally made it! Pretty slow if you ask me but drive safe lor at least.

1ST STOP, THE SUBMARINE MUSEUM @ KLEBANG:
Two of our classmates headed to Malacca on their own so we met them at the Submarine Museum at Klebang. I’ve never been or even heard of the place so it was a new experience for me. After our lecturer paid for our entrance fee, we went straight in to explore the area and snap lots of photos as though we were tourists for a day.

My main buddy & me! <3

The submarine looks pretty big here but you only get to visit one floor of that whole thing.

Because Rynn said it'll be nice to cover my face with my camera... JK la. ahahah!

The interior is pretty complicated and the walkway is damn narrow so I cant really imagine how a gang of marines could live there for months..

Everyone so camera shy... :P

Super oldies screens which I guess are like CCTVs?

Look at all those buttons...

And that scary mannequin. It scared the shit out of a lot of us because the rooms doors were really small so when we peaked suddenly at a glance we saw a mannequin sitting there. WTF. just so weird & creepy.

The tour inside was really quick & I got a tourist like photo with the submarine! Do I look like a tourist or not?! Purposely wore my bowler hat because it was the only chance I could hahaha!

Silly group photo. We stood according to our D.A.R.K.

The rest of the classmates that went. Hello Amanda... :P

After driving for just a short while, our lecturer thought it would be a great idea for us to take a walk and snap some photos at the sand dunes along Pantai Klebang. I never knew Malacca had those and it just looked like we suddenly were in Dubai. It was an enjoyable time because it wasn’t too sunny and quite windy, and we could just snap really nice scenery photos without getting all sweaty. For a while that is as Malaysian weather is super crazy lately and suddenly from super nice and windy weather to super damn hot. And imagine us walking from one end to another and had to walk back some more... Super good exercise lor. But okay la I admit, the photos were worth it.

Lost in the desert much?

So nice right! How can you feel tired with this view and the wind blowing in your hair?

Of course, nice scenery calls for epic #friendshipgoals photoshooting with my bestie, Rynnie!

#invisiblejumprope

#NOTsekinchan
Love this photo man! Even though the paddy thing was blocking my chin a bit but ahh so much feels! To get this shot, you must climb in between all the tickly grass and get a photographer who's willing to do the same hahaha!

Candid photo of me trying to get out of all that tickly pokey grass! #thingswedoforaphoto #tryingtobeartistic

Oh yea, do wear a pair of old shoes while you're here because some parts could be super muddy or the sand/mud could be really soft and you might get your shoe stuck in there. Car tyres might get stuck to if you plan to drive instead of walk.

Super sunny selfie :)

Because I thought climbing on a rock and posing like that was really cool despite getting my butt burnt by the heat. It was worth it tho! ;D

Look at the sand dunes! Don't you think it's like we're suddenly in Dubai (except theres no camels)?!

ON SCREEN: Chio bu? hahaha!

OFF SCREEN: "SHIT I'M GOING TO POKAI!!"

And of course another silly photo with my Rynnie! Us competing on who has the most Kim Kardashian-ish butt! hahaha!

Lastly, a group photo before leaving the sand dunes!

2ND STOP, LUNCH TIME + FREE TIME @ MALACCA TOWN:
Soon it was approaching lunch time, so we were dropped off near the Dataran Pahlawan McDonalds to grab lunch. At first we only had 45 minutes but due to the heavy rain, we had our free time as well which was another extra two hours! Felly drove and brought her gang to the famous Klebang coconut shake right after visiting the sand dunes and then to have chicken rice balls at Jonker Street. The remaining five of us couldn’t fit in her car and were stuck at McDonalds, but thankfully she saved us by walking over to bring us to lunch. It was so sweet of her as I thought she’d drive over but she walked all the way just to meet us and then walked us to lunch at Jonker Street. We walked under the drizzling rain for around 20 minutes and thankfully arrived at our destination before it started raining heavily.

Sadly standing right at the doorstep barely under shelter..

And behind me the rain just poured so heavily. Thankfully the service was quite fast and we waited for only 10 minutes and got a table beside our other classmates whom were there earlier.

I personally am a huge chicken rice and coconut lover so my cravings were totally satisfied when Felly treated all of us with the famous Klebang coconut shake while we had our chicken rice! We were all just so touched and grateful that she did that but she said as a Malaccan she must.

Chicken rice balls!! 40 cents per ball may sound cheap but if you eat like 10 it's already RM4 leh.. So not thaaat cheap. I personally like chicken rice balls because I just love soft soft food maybe cuz I got no teeth to chew.

Look at that chicken! The 5 of us ate a whole chicken and an astonishing 50 rice balls which made the owner laugh at us because it’s quite a lot for 5 petite girls. Like 10 balls per person leh.

When the rain started to die down, we walked around Jonker Street and did some snack shopping at the famous “San Shu Gong”. They sold snacks and stuff that my family members didn't eat and I said no la I won't buy anything, but I ended spotting a snack that my mum & I loved and I bought the most among my friends hahahaha! Errr too soon to say I guess.

After everyone had done their shopping, we went for our second round of eating at Jonker88 which was famous for their laksa and cendol. The interior is like so oldies but so cute lo!

So many mao zi dong posters here tho.. O.O

Didn't order any food as I was damn stuffed by the chicken rice balls. Greedy me saw the laksa looking so good and stole a few bites from my friend’s. It indeed was really good!

The assam laksa was too sour for me & it tasted different which I didn't really like though.

Cameras out because it's the 21st century lol.

Lastly the cendol which comes in original flavour, durian flavour and another flavour which I forgot. After eating, Felly also brought us to buy durian puffs as it was popular and just a few blocks from where we were at. Soon, our free time was coming to an end and we headed straight to our next visit.

Okay la, the last two spots were historical places and it's pretty boring so I'm going to stop here. The main point of the overall post is, go visit the sand dunes and eat, eat, eat when you're in Malacca! :D

  1. That's really interesting experience. I'm planning to go to Klebang sand dunes. Is there any possibility to go there by public transportation from Malacca old town?
