MOSAIC @ Mandarin Oriental

Sunday, 26 July 2015
Hey peeps! So I recently celebrated my first year anniversary with le boyfriend but wasn't sure if I should post it up or not since it was a private matter. So not much details about it will be mentioned here but instead I shall give you guys a food review on our dinner place! <3 It was all a surprise & I didn't know where we were heading for dinner & he brought me walking around KLCC & suddenly to the outside & oh, I found out we were having dinner at MOSAIC @ Mandarin Oriental. He chose this place because he's been here before 2 years ago & felt like the food was worth the price. Buffets don't normally have the best food but since he's chosen it so I'll give it a try :P Wasn't really hungry because we had a late lunch & I had rice. LOL He should have hinted to me because it was such a waste not to be able to eat much for a buffet!! Anyway, here are the photos!

* * *

The interior looks stunning! So expensive looking & of course full of mosaic decor!

The starters bar filled with all sorts of appetizers that I've never seen before.

The sushi bar, doesn't have much choices of sushi or seafood.

The salad bar, perfect for salad lovers!

They served 2 types of soup that day, spicy seafood tofu soup which tasted like shark fin soup, & roasted tomato soup which was very flavorful & a great starter dish. Both soups were yummy but I like the chinese style one more ahahah!

So this is the grilled section I think. Loved the grilled vegetables & the chicken wasn't dry at all! Didn't really like the herby taste of the sausage but my boyfriend liked it so I guess it depends on individual.

This was beside the grilled stuff & you just pick whatever you want & a staff will cook it for you. Waiting time is around 8 minutes if there were no orders before yours. This was all cooked just right & none of them were to hard or whatever.

Then we have the Indian section, I felt like this was just okay. Not too authentic & I guess it's kind of commercialized so it was just a meh... I prefer authentic Indian food!

Bread section for people who eat bread for dinner?? ahaha I'm more of a rice person for dinner so didn't try the bread at all. But it looks nice though.

Now this is the place for dessert lovers!! MOSAIC serves a pretty wide range of desserts as compared to the savory food they have.

Chocolate pops! So cute, so cute.

No idea what are those but their presentation is spot on ;)

Of course there's a fruit bar because not everyone eats desserts.

& in every buffet, a chocolate fondue is a must!! They don't have marshmallows to dip but they have other less common food that can be dipped in the fondue.

Classy but still very oriental decor. Ambiance 5 stars!

Since we had a reservation, we were given this little private corner which was so lovely & they had really excellent service too! Service 5 stars!

My handsome one <3

Kiddo me. Wearing the vest he got me! Ahh just love it! Been wanting to get it the first time I saw it in Forever 21 & even tried it on! But I felt like I wouldn't really wear it that often so didn't buy it... But was so happy when he got it for me & that I could wear it for dinner! Guys should do that more often for their girlfriends. Like pick out an outfit for them specially for a date, obviously please have good taste before doing that la if not your girlfriend will go mad. hahahah!

First thing I headed to get was the raw seafood! I have no idea why I put spring onions in the soya sauce but it was there so I assumed it would be okay to put it? ahahah! OK la. I just love spring onions. Anyway, the sushi wasn't good... Sorry but it can't even be compared to cheap sushi. It was not that fresh & wasn't even sliced properly!! Even supermarket sushi can do better. Ouch but that's the truth. Some of the slices had the fat lines hanging from the side showing that the cut wasn't sharp enough. It was really not pleasant to see or eat. The mussles were pretty tasteless & so were the oysters. That was disappointing The crab however was better the rest on that plate but still just decent as there was still some crab taste but I preferred it hot than cold.

Bae eating away.

I wanna snap a photo also cannot because he's too busy eating. Now who's the greedy eater! :P

Clockwise: Chocolate bowl with banana filling (the one in a spoon), Churro in dark chocolate dip, Mint marshmallow, Grape gummy candy, Chocolate pop with passion fruit filling, Caramel dessert, Butter cookie with milk chocolate fondue, Chocolate cake.

After many rounds of food, we finally reached the desserts section! Although I'm not a dessert fanatic but the cute presentation just made me want to try em all! Didn't get to try everything because after trying most of the savory food, we were pretty stuffed already so we only took those that we figured we'd like.

Here's a closer look on the chocolate bowl with banana filling. Looks kind of like a mini bowl of noodles! ahahaha

So after almost 3 hours of eating, we actually almost managed everything in the buffet but I didn't snap every plate we had because we were just too busy eating. But here are a few pointers on the good food! *based on my personal opinion*

* * *

Soup section: Spicy seafood tofu soup & Roasted creamy tomato soup
The seafood soup was not too spicy or salty, very thick & gooey which looked kind of like shark fin soup. Also tasted kind of like it but it was good! The roasted tomato soup was sourish & very good as an appetizer, but I wished there was more roasted taste though. But still good!

Appetizers/ Starters section: Marinated baby octopus
This is my favourite appetizer there! It's whitish & marinated in the way similiar to red baby octopuses served in Japanese restaurants but it's a little more appetizing as it has a tinge of sourness, something like thai styled? Super appetizing & yummy! Love it!!

Grilled section: Grilled chicken with grilled vegetables
Moist & yummy herb chicken + the grilled vegetables were soft & grilled till it was a little sweet!

Cooked when ordered: Chicken kebab
The chicken kebab it doesn't look that special on the first glance but the taste gives you a punch in the mouth when you chew it after some time.

Indian section: Indian satay
There were 2 types of satays, I forgot what meat were they but both were nice! Not too dry, but I wish that it was cooked on the spot because satay only tastes best when hot!

Chinese section: Curry noodles & stir fried beef
Actually most of the chinese section dishes were all not bad. There were quite a few types of stir fried vegetables & meat, but the most standout on to me was the stir fried beef with black pepper sauce. Saucy which I loved! Not too salty or peppery & the beef was soft & tender! As for the curry noodles, you can pick your own noodles, vegetables & meat to add into your curry/chicken soup noodles. I didn't know they'll recook the meat together so mine was only filled with veges. Ahahah! But the curry was really good! Super coconuty soup, not too oily or spicy, & it was just so good! Somehow I chose veges that aren't normally in curry noodles but the broth was so good so who cares! Okay la, curry lover here so anything with curry also nice 1. Definitely would have went with a 2nd serving if I still had the space.

Desserts section: Butter cookie dipped with chocolate fondue, Chocolate bowl with banana filling (the one in a spoon), Chocolate cake & Passion fruit sorbet
Huge fan of butter cookies here so butter cookies & chocolate is a definite YUM for me! I think I've mentioned that I'm a fan of a lot of food eh... Ahaha anyway, the chocolate bowl with banana filling was a yum too! Loved that the chocolate wasn't too sweet & balanced with the banana filling as well. The tiny chocolate cake was good as it wasn't too sweet, super soft & light! Lastly, I didn't get a photo of the passion fruit sorbet but I can say it was yummy! The flavour was kind of strong with sweet & sourness, I would prefer if it was a bit more tone down but it was good! They serve a variety of a few other sorbets as well but I only tried the passion fruit one.

Here's a close up on my accesories. Don't normally wear any accesories because I just forget to wear em but special occasion mah! :D

Me trying to be posey.

#ootd :)

Overall it was a great night of food as most of them were quite nice, however I feel like there wasn't much choice for us. To be honest, I think that it wasn't really worth the price & One World hotel's buffet is better. I've even read some reviews saying that the quality dropped. I guess it was better before but I hope they can improve on this. There were good dishes but the choices were lacking & the food could do better. Here's the location if you're still interested to go anyway!

Wanderlust @ SOHO KL

Saturday, 25 July 2015
Hello guys! Since I have some free time here while waiting for my photos to be resized, I'm going to blog about a cafe review that I visited around 2 weeks ago called Wanderlust which is at Soho KL! Okay bare with the iphone camera photos harr... xD Oh ya, I mentioned about resizing my photos previously right, apparently you can only have a maximum of 1GB content on your home page, that's why my homepage has been only displaying like 1 or 2 posts.. -.-ll Argh! That really pissed me off because I really want the homepage to have like at least 6 posts so it wouldn't look so empty! Ah wells, the more posts there is, the longer a page takes to load. So I shall resize all the photos that I'm posting next time.. ;( Anyway, here comes the not so HD photos la. :P

* * *

The interior looks so classy french feel doesn't it? Or maybe it's the chairs hahaha! But this place really is a nice place for chillin'!

Ordered chamomile tea because the dish I ordered is kind of creamy so I didn't want to feel uneasy after eating it.

Another photo just because the tea packaging is so cute & I just love the flowers!! I think they're called baby's breath. What a name though.. xD

This is what the outside seating area looks like. Somehow I think that it doesn't really match the super vintage french feel inside though.. ahahah but it's still simple & nice!

I absolutely love this view! & the shine of the light through water & glass! SO SMART!

Light + Glass + Water just creates a whole new effect to light reflections. I'm just a fan of this!

Anyway, there's le bf being cropped from the photo.. ahahah! He ordered a big breakfast & I didn't snap a pic of it because well, everyone knows how it looks & he was really hungry & just started eating already... hahaha! But if you love hash browns, you should try theirs! SUPER YUMMY & NOT OILY! OK la. You do need oil to fry it but somehow they made it less oily & when you eat it, you won't taste much of the oil which was great! Most of the time you just get greasy hash browns which just gets you feeling guilty after eating because of all that oil, but this one doesn't! Although it's also fattening but no guilt wor! :P

Okay so thats mine! Tiger prawn linguine - RM30 *if not mistaken*
I was expecting frozen prawns & super creamy pasta but this wasn't frozen prawns of super creamy pasta!! The prawns were fresh which is really rare to find because nowadays most restaurants just give you frozen ones. The other thing is, the pasta tasted really unique! Nothing like anything I've tried because it was a combination of creamy & slight cheesy sauce, with a tinge of curry leaves taste & salted egg yolk! Nope this isn't a typo! Salted egg yolk & pasta??? Yes! A combination I never imagined or heard of, but when I tried it, it was just da bomb! The balance was super nice, not overly creamy type where you get fed up after 3 bites, & there were some zucchini or was it cucumber to balance the creaminess which was a great addition. Just loved it & the serving was just right! Okay la, might be a bit big for others but just right for a big eater like me! xD
Hehe. The insta worthy shot. Overall I loved this place & would definitely come again soon! Good food, good service & good atmosphere! Definitely not one of those cafes that only just serve good coffee but the food is crap. Not pointing at any particular cafe but Wanderlust really redefined the perception on cafes not serving good food.

Dolly Dimsum & Black Bull @ Avenue K

Sunday, 19 July 2015
Callin' all dimsum lovers! Okay, this is kind of a pricey dimsum place compared to other neighbourhood dimsum places but how can you say no to good food & a great environment?! OK la, if you're craving for dimsum & is in desperate need to update your Instagram, DOLLY DIMSUM IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! <3 It's a HALAL dimsum restaurant at the Ground floor of Avenue K which somehow shares the same entrance as Fresca Mexican Dining which is kind of weird. ahaha Scroll down to see why it's such a nice place for photos!

* * *

It opens at 11am so if you want to get a photo like mine without any people there, be sure to go in at that time! ;)

Look at it! I just have this strange love for lots of windows & a glass canopy. Oh & that colour scheme is just too cute!

My dry tired eyes & hungry face x.x

Salad Prawn Dumpling - RM9.90 *if not mistaken

This was the first to arrive. Wooo salad prawn dumplings are just a must order in every dimsum restaurant. This one however was alright, a bit too oily & I've had better.

Clockwise : Siew Mai, Thai Style Prawn Parcel, Salad Prawn Dumpling (RM9.90-RM12.90)

I don't really remember the price for all these & the website doesn't even show it but I remember that the prices were around RM10 or more per plate. Siew mai was alright (also, had better because I'm a siew mai lover & tried many before.), the Thai Style Prawn Parcel I super loved that! I guess I really like thai sauce & stuff. :)

Loh Mai Gai *spot it beside the teapot* - RM9.90

Now this was the best I've had so far! Too bad no close up photo for it because it wasn't really that photo worthy but it sure is taste buds worthy! The glutinous rice was soft & sticky, some may not like it being a bit softer than the usual ones, but I love soft soft food so I found it really nice. Plus, it was so packed with flavour as though it has been cooked for a long time. They were super generous with the huge mushroom & loads of chicken meat. I would definitely rate this one 5 stars! <3 It's just too good!! Also, it doesn't have chinese sausage which normal loh mai gai does & I never liked that so this was really perfect for me!

The teapot was just too pretty not to snap!

Overall the food was pretty good. If I were in town area & was craving for dimsum, I would go there again! But next time I will go with more people so we can order more! I so wanna try the Royal Golden Fried Rice that has prawns & ebikko! OK... Next round..

After our yummy lunch, my friends & I went for bowling at Black Bull @ Avenue K for our Co-curiculum subject. You guys should really go there if you want to chill out with friends & play some snooker or bowling because it's quite a private place & really great for hangouts!

Located at level 3 beside the Avenue K steps, Black Bull occupies around 3 shop lots which makes it pretty spacious!

Bowling area in a restaurant?! So cool lo. Absolutely suitable for bowling beginners like myself because the alley is slightly shorter than those regular bowling alleys.

We are the early birds waiting for the rest to come.

GO TEAM ! <3 The shoes also damn cute lor.

Group photo!

Macam yes tapi bukan.

It was pretty fun when everyone came & we all played.

We were the first ones to leave as we started our 2 hour game early. I didn't expect myself to even do well in it but we all did surprisingly good! This is a definite place I'd go back to again for chillin', entertainment & food! They serve really nice cheesy wedges & I must go eat it again!! Sorry, cheese lover here. :D Next time, I'll be sure to play snooker as well!

Weekend in Marina Bay Sands

Saturday, 18 July 2015
Hello guys! So I've been meeting to post on my Singapore trip a couple of months ago because it's not like any regular Singapore trip. I bet most of you have been there before but I was lucky enough to have the chance to spend 2 nights at the infamous Marina Bay Sands Singapore! Not here to brag but instead to share on my stay there! :) Didn't snap photos on every meal I had because most of the food I had throughout the trip were Singapore's famous hawker stall food. Anyway, here goes! ;)

* * *

DAY 1

Trying to snap an "artsy shot" here but ahaha doesn't look so much legit :P This is actually what you see when you're walking towards the lobby. MBS is separated into 3 towers by the way so it was confusing for us since we didn't know until the taxi driver asked us.

So here's the room! Ok la, quite small cuz bajet mah. But bajet also not cheap okay. I forgot which floor my room was but I know that the lifts are super fast & they allocate certain floors for a few lifts & another certain floors for the remaining ones. At least we wouldn't have to wait so long because there are really a lot of floors.

Bathroom selfie! Nothing special about the bathroom so need not any photos.

The view from our room! Look at Gardens by the Bay! So cute like little mushrooms.

View from the hallway of the rooms.

Shortly after checking in, we quickly went off for lunch as we were all starved! My mum's friend's daughter recommended us to try Concetto by Saveur which is a casual fine dining concept restaurant that serves fine dining like food with an affordable price. It was sure a unique dining experience because the flavours were very different from other affordable restaurants the food was served quite fast despite some being pretty complicated.

Concetto Salad - $7.90

So this is their in house salad. $7.90 only eh! Not bad if you're earning SGD what. Anyway, I will totally recommend this to tomato lovers because it consists of 3 types of tomatoes (honey, cherry & roma), pesto & basil, buffalo mozzarella & balsamic vinaigrette! Not much of a tomato fan but huge fan of the buffalo mozzarella! It's the white stuff that looks like eggs :P

Fruitti De Mare - $15.90

MMMMM YUMMS! This is my favourite dish there! I just love tomatoish sauce but not tomatoes. Okay I admit that I'm weird. Its basically handmade fettuccine pasta with seafood arrabbiata sauce. It tastes kind of like tomato sauce but has a tinge of spiciness & is somehow kind of milky. But this is totally 5 stars!! <3

Prawn Aglio - $11.90

So I guess most of you guys have tried aglio olio before so there's need not the explaination on how it tastes la. This dish was delish as well and had a twist of Japanese style with the sprinkled crispy sakura ebi.

Classic Caesar Salad - $6.90

The yellow stuff ain't egg & I forgot what is that. It's cheese if I'm not mistaken. The caesar salad has bacon & cheese in it & for me that is an absolute YES! Salad with bacon & cheese? Heaven & yet you won't feel that guilty also hahaha!

Kurobrata Pork Cheek - $14.90

So this is their must try dishes & it's braised kurobrata pork cheek served with homemade potato gnocchi & anchovy squid ink puree. First time trying squid ink & I don't really know how to describe it. Gnocchi is actually a potato styled pasta but I'm not really a huge fan of it because it was kinda chewy to me. But if you love pork cheek you should try it!

Duck Confit - $13.90

Duck confit I like! It's pan seared served with sauteed mixed muschrooms, honey mustard sauce & a sweet corn puree. I think that the taste blended very well & the mushrooms really matched the duck.

Salmon with pearl cous cous - $17.90

I think that this is a very fine dining dish because how often do you get to eat cous cous? Cous cous are those round stuff there that is kinda like pasta in the form of little beads. I don't really like cous cous because you can taste a lot of the wheat flour taste in it. It was kind of our lucky day because there were those little violet flower things that tasted like oyster! *i think those are flowers la* Not everyday they have it & we were lucky!

Okay, I have no idea what this is because it wasn't even in the menu. Specially made by the chef as he was a friend of my mum's friend's daughter.

Tiramisu - $9.90

This is also one of their must try's! The tiramisu was very different as it isn't in the form of a typical tiramisu. The tastes were just right for me because I don't have a sweet tooth nor am I a desserts person. A must order if you dine in there!

Chocolate Tart - $9.90

This is not a regular chocolate tart with an actual tart below it. It kinda replaced the typical butter tart with brownies which to me is kind of sad because I'm a tart lover! But the combination of chocolate & passion fruit gel surprising worked even though I never pictured both of them together.

Grapefruit DOME - $7.90

This one's my favourite dessert of them all! It has flavours of orange, lemon, honey mint & grapefruit! I definitely would order this again the next time I go there! Great pallet cleanser & something not to heavy if you've had a lot already.

After almost trying more than half of the menu, I am absolutely stuffed! Concetto is one of the restaurants opened by the company Saveur. As you can see on their serviette, there are other 3 outlets with different concepts. Concetto is the more economical one la.

Concetto by Saveur
2 Handy Rd, Singapore 229233
OPENING HOURS: 12pm-9pm (DAILY)
PHONE:+65 6735 1141

This is the location if anyone of you guys are interested to go try on your next visit to Singapore!

After our tasteful & satisfying meal, we took a stroll to walk of some of those calories & became a tourist for a day.

Went into Takashimaya & saw this! My mum kept bugging me if I wanted to eat it because she loves ice cream & I don't really eat 1. ahahah Basically all she wants me to do is accompany her & when we get the ice cream, I pretend it's mine so that it wouldn't look so weird. LOL. But we ended up not buying because the queue was terrible!! Everywhere in Singapore, if you want good food, you MUST queue... =.=

Soon, we went back to the hotel for dinner. Ate at this fancy chinese restaurant in Marina Bay Sands which I forgot the name of it but the food was pricey & average. But the view was awesome though as we were in a private room which overlooks the shopping area in MBS. Also, the room was a little over the edge of the wall which was kind of scary as I sat really near it.

Duck skin is love & will always be love <3
Didn't manage to get photos of the other food because we were all too hungry & kinda paisieh to snap then let people wait lar.

Wooo. Back at the hotel & spent my night watching some prank show while the adults went to the casino to try their luck. I was the only one underage so stuck in the hotel it is! ;(

DAY TWO

Basically day two was more of a chillin' day, no specific schedule. So woke up early & had some breakfast & then went to the pool! The pool is so cool & the view is just amazing! & it's called the selfie pool lol. Because most people go there just to snap photos & not to actually swim. One example, yours truly :D

Panoramic view from the spot I was chillin' at! There were like sooo many people there & I was just lucky enough to snag that spot!

#selfie

Just gettin' my tan on. Not. :P

The only time I dare to wear my tiny tiny bikini is when I'm overseas. If I do in Malaysia, people will just stare & its just weird..

Whoop whoop. Had to snap photos by myself as I was alone that time. Was so scared I accidentally drop my phone!

#vainTTM

Summer vibes yo.

Spent like around 1-2 hours there & it was pretty relaxing. Although I went during the wrong time which was around 12 so the sun was so friggin hot. But these are just the few things we do for a photo. Ahahaha!

In case you didn't know, you don't have to be a guest at the hotel to swim here. If I'm not mistaken, you can actually pay to swim here. But I think it's around like $20-$30. That I didn't really like because it made the place less private & luxurious since anyone could just come in. Same as the hotel. There were shops near the lobby & just tonnes of people walking here & there. Just felt like there wasn't much privacy & it didn't seem so high class or elite anymore... >:(

After all the swimming, my mum & I went to shopping around & had some snacks before going back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Was actually sick the whole time I was there so I didn't really have much appetite to enjoy most of the food. Somehow time just passed really fast that day & we already ended our 2nd day with some good old Eminent frog porridge at Geylang road.

Didn't bring my camera out so got this photo from Google. ;)

Love that they serve plain porridge & you just add on how much frog meat you want.
Photo from : Vkeong's blog

Kung Poh Frog. This was super yummy! Very saucy which I love & has lots of spring onions!

Drools!!

Here's the location for the Eminent Frog Porridge restaurant! Beware that there are quite a few selling frog porridge nearby so be sure to go to this one! It used to be just a small shop but now it has branched out to a bigger space which makes eating there a lot more comfortable than before.

DAY THREE

Awwh. At day 3 now which is also the last day already. Since we had to leave at around noon, we just had a free & easy day strolling the shops at Marina Bay Sands.

Somehow the architecture looks like an airport.

Love the shadows.
Heheh. #ootd
You can never go wrong by wearing all black.

We then headed to a cafe in MBS itself for some snacks & tea before headin' back.
That was actually right above us & I wonder how are they gonna clean that man...

Tart with meringue on top & some strawberry sauce. Looks good only.

My chamomile tea along with a cheesecake & tiramisu

Everything just looks good but it's not.. Just so so..

This I especially hate!! I just dont like intestine stuff & that is intestine minced & I dont even know how to describe it...

This however was surprising good! The chips were papadam & those are skewered fish marinated in some sauce. Surprisingly good!

After our little meal, we checked out & headed home. Overall it was a great experience & if you ask me whether I'd stay there again, probably not. Unless they only allow guests to enter & if it was more private. Nonetheless, it was a privilege to have gotten the chance to experience what it was like & it definitely motivates me to work harder to achieve that kind of life.
